Letting Go

“Letting go has never been easy, but holding on can be as difficult. Yet strength is measured not by holding on, but by letting go.”     Len Santos

possibilities

Follow your heart . . . step by step . . . it will lead you into possibilities you never imagined.

The other morning I started looking back through a journal from 2010 and found something I had written. It actually went like this: I was thinking about how when you follow your heart  –  step by step  –  follow your path, and it will lead you into opportunities you never imagined.  I truly believe that.  It reminds me of the “cliche” that says you have to let go of good to receive what is best. How often do we accept circumstances in our lives, whether it be a job that bores us to tears or live somewhere that you know isn’t right for you . . . whatever . . .  Life is too short to settle for less. My son, a few years ago, quit a job that offered security but that he was miserable in. He ended up finding a job working for a guy who valued Zac and his abilities, and who was willing to let him have time off to pursue his dreams, be it a road trip on a motorcycle or a trek in an old Subaru through Baja off the beaten track. He went from feeling frustrated to living life his way and savored every moment of it.

Imagination

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”    Albert Einstein

There is much to be said for logic, but equally as much for imagination.  Why not dream that you might some day fly down the beach and around Morro Rock?  Well, not for me . . . but we all have our different ideas for flights of fancy.

“If you’re not sure where you’re going, you’ll probably end up somewhere else”     unknown

As I think about it . . . that can be taken in different ways.  Setting goals is a good thing — and keeping your focus. But how about a road trip? Instead of racing to our destination (Austin, Tx.), we got off the beaten path and toodled around the old Route 66.  Amazing how many of the old structures are still sitting there like something out of a ghost town. The side trip was well worth it and we still made it to Austin with fun memories of the journey.

Beauty of springtime on Bitterwater Road

“To live a creative life,  we must lose our fear of being wrong.”    Joseph Chilton Pearce

Well, the quote doesn’t really go with the photo – but I just found it on another blogger’s page and loved it.

Be sure and go for a long drive while the wildflowers are still with us! We live in an area (San Luis Obispo Co.) that is bursting with beauty almost no matter where you turn!! So enjoy – be filled with wonder at the beauty of creation.

security

“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure.  Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.”       Helen Keller
