real friends

“Some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never ever the same.”     Flavia Weedn

I have been so blessed to have some very special friends – the kind who catch you when you fall, love you when you are the least lovable, push you to be more than you thought, sit with you when no words will do, and get you to laugh and make your heart merry . . .

If you live in San Luis Obispo Co., then you know this view well . . . a favorite for photographers everywhere who travel down hwy. 46 west.

locked in?

“I thought how unpleasant it is to be locked out; and I thought how it is worse, perhaps, to be locked in.”              Virginia Woolf

I found the quote by Virginia Woolf to be quite thought-provoking. I love the gift writers have of helping us push ourselves, stretch ourselves, and to open ourselves. Some of my greatest influences have been people I will never meet in this life who, thankfully, put their thoughts in writing and shared with the rest of us.

The photo is a shot I took of our boston terrier, Jimi.

no smooth ride . . .

Ours is essentially a tragic age, so we refuse to take it tragically. The cataclysm has happened, we are among the ruins, we start to build up new little habitats, to have new little hopes. It is rather hard work: there is no smooth road into the future: but we go round, or scramble over the obstacles. We’ve got to live, no matter how many skies have fallen.
D.H. Lawrence-Lady Chatterly’s Lover

Dedicated to my daughter Carly. We share a love of quotes, beauty, and the desire to believe there is always hope.

being complete

“My moments of being most complete, most integrated, have come either in complete solitude or when I am being part of a body made up of many people going the same direction.” Madeleine L’Engle

I wish I had a way with words like Madeleine! Maybe this speaks to me because I am an introvert and I need my alone time to refresh. But then again, I Need to be part of a body of people, or I know that I would wither away – without the nurturing and love that I need, and without giving back that which we all have inside us to share.
